Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2013.5, 2014, 2015 and 2016 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 459€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® License" priced at 199€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

CHANGES SINCE THE PREVIOUS VERSION

  • Implemented the animated ORBX export.
  • Implemented the support of new render passes.
  • Fixed the bug: crashed after the rendering of frame as HDR image with passes.
  • Fixed the multilayer EXR file saving during HDR image rendering.
  • Fixed the Maya 2016-specific bug: problems with setting Octane node's attributes when the attribute editors are opened both in the side-panel and in hypershader at the same time.
  • Minor fixes and improvements...

Cool, cheers Jim.

Did you get a chance to look at an option for the swatch issue:

It's how Maya's color picker works, Octane plugin has no access to the color picker gamma.
But I've checked it today in Maya 2016 - and I see that they have changed this in 2016. The color picker now shows the right color in Maya 2016...

Thanks for the update, Jim!

It looks like this issue with "nonsense" values in the Octane geometry attributes is back in 2015, and also 2016: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=46278. Screenshot here is from 2016, but I'm also experiencing this in 2015 SP6.

Also, in 2016, hitting Tab in the work area only gives access to Octane material nodes. Obviously there are other ways to get the other nodes in there, but could we get them to show up with Tab, as well?

Thanks!

The Sun/Sky node still affecting image background.

To try fix this I need change the exposure in camera settings. But in some cases this not work.

Please always read the versions descriptions in the header post if you download the test-versions here.
JimStar wrote:Implemented support of camera image planes. Remember that Octane is unbiased renderer so don't expect all the image plane's biased features implemented. All you get - the "real-world" textured diffuse panel, which acts like real-world object inside the scene.

i´m sorry to ask but why does octane no longer support maya version 2013 ?
i know i´m already two versions behind but i still feel that 2013 is more stable than 2015 and 2016. plus if i need to upgrade i will need to upgrade every single plugin i currently have. and of course some of my scripts won´t work on later versions of maya i think.

Strange... All is OK on my side.
I've just tried in 2016:
- New scene (Octane plugin disabled).
- Create cube.
- Load Octane pugin.
- All mesh Octane attributes appeared, all have correct default values...
I suspect there may be some glitches in Maya regarding this - looks like they are nothing to do with the plugin... As what the plugin does during its loading - it registers new extension attributes for Maya node classes, supplying Maya by all the needed info about new attributes including their default values. So, it is Maya's responsibility to not only populate all the existing nodes of given class by new attributes (that Maya does correctly), but set the correct default values for all these attributes after creation.

Just tried it in Maya 2016, all the non-Octane nodes are present too.
