There is an exporter for 2.4x, but not for 2.5x yet. Exporters are available to licensed customers.

i use ubuntu, osx and winXp. do i have to purchase three licenses?
is the licenese bound to one computer or to the user?

how would the 2.5exporter look like? is it possible to make all mat/tex/env/light-settings directly in blender (like with luxblend25/luxrender)
or is just an extented obj exporter?
can i get some more information about the available 2.4 exporter functionality before purchasing the beta?

thx dave

the license is "bound" to one computer with as many OS as you can fit, but you can deactivate it at any time and install it and activate it in another computer with a short wait in between.

The exporter handles animation and re-exporting of the geometry for every frame. An example workflow would be to export the scene once and then tweak the materials and settings in Octane and to save the OCS file (Octane Scene file). You'd then start the animation from the Blender script and it will re-export the objects for every frame but use the materials and scene settings in the OCS file. All scripts for every 3D modeling software follow the same guideline for usage so that the script and functionality is similar for all users.

I've been trying out Thea recently. I'm trying to decide which product to go with. I like the direction that Thea is going in, but I'm considering Octane also. With Brecht on board now, are you going to make your pluggin work the way Thea is doing it?

You would select your rendering engine in Blender 2.5x, and then assign Octane materials, and set and animate your render settings from within Blender. This let's you change your DOF, etc... (animatable) within Blender. This kind of functionality makes Thea very useful. If you're going to do the same thing, I'll consider Octane. I like the Octane demo version so far.

Duno how Thea exporter works, but the 2.5 octane exporter will work more or less the same way 2.49 octane exporter works, we hope to release an alpha version around this week.

Plugins are for licensed users only, unfortunately. At the moment, Octane's animation is very primitive, but the program is still very young, and I think we can expect to see advancements in this area in the future.
