Note that all versions of octane render as of v1.0 beta 2.3 and higher will require an internet connection to function and share content with community users. If you do not have an internet connection on the machine you are planning to install Octane Render on, you should connect it, by any means, and the speed does'nt have to be fast, it can even be a slow mobile phone internet connection.
This is what it says under the purchasing site and im really wondering why before i attempt to buy the software because i myself is a student to Art Institute through California and also am a reserved soldier for the Army. I want to be able to use Octane while I ship to Afghanistan this coming year.
In 4 years 60% of all computer applications will require an internet connection to work. (check the gartner group report, the worlds largest future trend predicting/analysis corporation).
Do yourself and your family a favour, stay home, please.
Your life is priceless to yourself and your family and friends.
I'm sorry about the 2.3 internet requirement, it's simply needed for our company to grow and provide the best product on the market, but i think if you do go to afghanistan, don't take octane render with you, you'll get a sniper bullet in your head as you'll be hooked playing with octane, in front of your laptop.
2.2b (the current stable) is pretty complete and will certainly keep you busy, and it does'nt require any network connection at all.
you'll have to work without meshlights in afghanistan, which is the weirdest sentence i've typed on this forum as of yet.
But, you can do meshlights with 2.2b, if you're clever and inventive. And if you have time to kill, you'll definately come back with heaps of great renders.
everything in our current gallery is rendered with 2.2b or lower.
And when your duty is over, you can play with octane v2.x.
